A Message from the President

President's Tee Box

Dear LPGA Amateur Golf Association and Friends,

As you know, the EWGA moved under the LPGA umbrella earlier this year and was rebranded as LPGA Women Who Play, a program of the LPGA Foundation.  Not long after the merger was announced, it become clear that many members were supportive of joining the LPGA family, but many were not in favor of the re-branded name. Some felt as though LPGA Women Who Play mistakenly implied that you were LPGA professionals, and some felt as though the word "Play" diminished the fact that you were serious, passionate women golfers.

National leadership listened and learned from your comments, suggestions and survey responses. They spent several weeks applying what was learned, As of June 29, LPGA Women Who Play became the LPGA Amateur Golf Association.

I know these transitions have been confusing for everyone, but our core beliefs as an association and organization remain the same. For almost 30 years, the EWGA connected thousands of women across the U.S. and beyond to learn, play, and enjoy golf for business and fun.

By joining forces, the LPGA and EWGA are able to broaden the reach of the LPGA's renowned resources to the EWGA's amateur women golfers and grow the audience for a combined mission.

EWGA Louisville President

What's Hot

Stylish Sun Protection
By Diana Ragsdale

Summer has finally arrived. The warm temperatures and extended daylight hours give us ample opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities, especially golf. It also exposes us to the UV rays that carry the risk of the development of skin cancer. As a cancer survivor, I take this risk seriously and it is exciting to see that clothing producers and designers are making fashionable attire with sun protection.

I have purchased two brands of sun protection golf shirts: IBKUL and Jamie Sadock's Sunsense. Both of these brands are very stylish and I received a number of compliments on them. I wore them during the midday sun in very hot temperatures and they were both surprisingly cool. The fabrics are lightweight and they shield your skin from direct, intense sunlight.

These and other sun protection shirts and sleeves are available are the Covered Bridge pro shop, at golf stores that sell clothing (such as Golf Galaxy) and online. You may have noticed that many of our LPGA pro sisters are taking the steps to protect their skin and we should consider following their lead. If you would like to ask me about my experience with these shirts, I would be happy to share what I know.

Stay safe, stay cool and hit 'em long and straight.
